You could end up with a perfectly decent Mac for about $1200 instead of $3000, and from all reports, it worked most excellently.īut Amiga Mac emulation? I didn't know anything about that, and I'm pleased it works as well as it does. (I never ran it myself I worked in a store that sold STs, but I was an Amiga guy.) The hardest part with Spectre was getting a Mac ROM Apple actually tightened way down on selling them because of it, so it was pretty common to burn a PROM or an EPROM instead. IIRC, it could even read Mac disks natively it used some kind of hardware dongle or something. Combined with its monochrome screen, it was much cheaper than a Mac, a bit faster, and had a better display. The ST had a Mac emulation program, Spectre GCR, that worked quite well. I'd left the Amiga well before Shapeshifter was really a thing, and I had no idea it was as good as that. If you know more old software resources not listed, please share!

No you didn't just find a pot of gold or win the lottery, and if you did, there's a better place for that. "Wanted" posts and free items for pickup are ok (as text/self posts, include your location & or in title), but "for sale" posts, ebay links, or "what's this stuff worth" posts are not. No pictures of old software, documentation, accessories, unless a complete battlestation is included. Posts should be about using retro equipment or news about retro stuff, whether it’s personal projects, new products, old articles, or reusing old hardware in new ways.įeel free to show off your machines, but please keep your posts about actual battlestations. The RetroBattlestations community is about using, repairing, replicating, emulating, and reminiscing about retro & vintage battlestations.
